MAP KERNOW

Description

MAP's bronze figure, located on Kapunda's southern entrance/exit, stands over 7 metres tall. 'MAP KERNOW' can be translated as 'Son of Cornwall', which acknowledges the Cornish miners who contributed to the establishment of Australia's first commercial mining venture.

Renown sculpture Ben Van Zetten was chosen to create theĀ  bronze structure which was constructed under difficult conditions in open air, at the site. The monument depicts miner with tools of trade.

The project was an initiative of the Rotary Club of Kapunda. Weighing three tons, thesculpture is the only one of its kind in the World. Located adjacent to parking and information bay.
